Student insurance in Canada

Provinces that provide public health insurance to international students:

  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
  • Quebec (students from certain countries)
  • Saskatchewan

Provinces that DO NOT provide public health insurance to international students:

  • Manitoba

If you aren’t eligible for provincial health coverage, your only option is a private health insurance plan. These usually cost, on average, from CAD 600 to 900 per year.
