Introduction:
Recently, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an important update regarding calculating processing time. IRCC has announced a new method for calculating processing time for some categories. Let’s check the announcement and get the details:
New Method for Processing Time Calculation:
IRCC is set to introduce a new method for calculating processing times. Unlike the previous approach, which primarily focused on fixed timelines, the new method will take into account the number of pending applications in a category and the department’s capacity to process them. Additionally, applications will continue to be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. IRCC has also issued a warning where they advise not to re-apply because if you’re in a queue, it will be created on first come, first served basis, and if you re-apply, then your new application will be queued on the last and can delay your processing.
Affected Visa Categories:
Several visa categories will be considered under this new processing time calculation method. These include the Canadian Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Program, Federal Skilled Worker Program, Grandparent Program, and the Spouse Program, whether Inside or Outside Canada.
80% Target and Backlog:
One of the major update is that IRCC has announced that they will process 80% of the application within the service standard time for each category. However, there are still 2.1 million applications pending in the backlogs of IRCC, which shows the need for efficient processing time.
Future of Processing time:
With the implementation of the new processing time calculation method, applicants can expect more accurate estimations of their application processing timelines. Furthermore, there’s a noticeable trend of decreasing processing times across various visa categories, particularly in spouse visa applications.
To conclude, the IRCC is working to make visa process easy and simple for everyone. Also, this new method will not only help individuals to know about their exact processing time but will help in processing their files quickly.
