There is a lot of talk about getting a Permanent Residency (PR) in Canada right now, especially since the Express Entry score is now over 550. Many people are worried about how hard it might be to get PR in Canada. In this blog, letβs check the reality, the new rules and criteria for Canada PR, and introduce a category where you can get PR with a score as low as 330-340.
Canadaβs PR system is considered one of the easiest in the world, offering multiple pathways such as Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and the Canadian Experience Class. However, recent changes have introduced a category-based system, impacting how applicants can secure their PR status.

The biggest change in Canadaβs PR system is the introduction of a category-based approach. Major categories now include:
1. Healthcare
2. Trade
3. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
4. Transport
5. Agriculture
Additionally, there is a special category for French-speaking applicants, known as the Francophone category.

The latest draw for the Francophone category was on July 8, with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420, inviting 3,200 people. Previous draws this year have seen scores ranging from 336 to 420. If you are proficient or fluent in French, you can apply under this category and potentially secure PR with a lower CRS score.

From July 2 to July 5, several draws were conducted for different categories:
Trade: CRS score of 436 on July 4
Healthcare: CRS score of 445 on July 5
These category-based draws generally have lower CRS scores compared to the general draw, which this year required a minimum score of 524.
In these six categories, a total of 15,600 people have already been invited this year. If you are prepared and your file is ready, you can apply under these categories and secure PR with a lower CRS score.

While the category-based system offers more accessible pathways, it is important to note that these categories are not permanent. They are valid until 2025 and may be replaced based on labor market demands. The six current categories are:
1. Healthcare
2. STEM
3. Trade Occupations
4. Transportation
5. Agriculture
6. French (Francophone)
Of these, the French category is likely to remain due to Canadaβs commitment to promoting bilingualism.
Canada’s PR system is now more focused on specific in-demand occupations. To maximize your chances of success, pay attention to your chosen field of study or work and to the In-demand jobs in Canada.
