International students in Canada can now work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions, an increase from the previous 20-hour limit. This change provides greater flexibility for students to balance work and studies while maintaining their academic focus.

โBy fixing the off-campus work limit to 24 hours per week, we are striking the right balance between providing work opportunities and helping students stay focused on their education.โ

Students wishing to transfer to a different learning institution must now apply for and receive approval for a new Canada student permit before making the switch. This ensures transparency and compliance within the International Student Program (ISP).
Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) face stricter reporting standards to verify student compliance. Institutions failing to meet these requirements risk suspension from enrolling international students for up to a year.

To address fraud and exploitation, IRCC has implemented measures to:
a. Improve oversight of DLIs.
b. Strengthen protections against financial vulnerability and bad actors.
c. Safeguard the academic experience for international students in Canada.
