🌟Which family members can I bring with me to Canada once I receive permanent residence?🌟

Foreign nationals who receive permanent residence (PR) in Canada can bring qualifying dependent family members with them to Canada.

It is important, however, to distinguish that this is different from the family members that a Canadian permanent resident is eligible to sponsor after they immigrate to Canada. More information on sponsoring family members to come to Canada is available below.

For a Canadian permanent resident to bring their family member(s) with them to Canada, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) clarifies that the family member(s) must have been “processed for permanent residence as … dependents” of the principal applicants.

Note: In all of the situations below, IRCC clarifies that the dependents of a Canadian permanent resident cannot arrive in Canada before the principal applicant. Instead, the dependents must arrive with or after the principal applicant.

The list of eligible family members that qualify as dependents includes:

  • A spouse or common-law partner
  • A dependent child
  • The dependent child of a spouse or common-law partner
  • The dependent child of a dependent child

Generally speaking, in all of the above contexts, a dependent child is someone who is under 22 years of age and does not have a spouse or partner. However, according to IRCC, children aged 22 or older also qualify as dependents if they “have depended on their parents for financial support since before they were 22” and “can’t financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition.”

Learn more about who qualifies as a dependent child here, as this may change depending on the age lock-in date for the specific program a candidate is applying to.

Who cannot come with me to Canada when I receive PR?

On the other hand, IRCC lists the following family members as those who are ineligible to come to Canada alongside someone who just received PR:

  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Siblings (Brother or Sister)
  • Uncle/Aunt
  • Niece/Nephew
  • Other relatives

Sponsoring your family as a Canadian permanent resident

After arriving here, permanent residents may be able to sponsor different members of their families to join them in Canada. Again, the distinction between this and the above is that sponsorship occurs after the principal applicant arrives in Canada.

Additionally, this process varies depending on whether the applicant is sponsoring a spouse or common-law partner, a dependent child or a parent/grandparent.

In fact, depending on who is being sponsored, the Canadian permanent resident (the sponsor) may have several options for sponsoring a loved one to come to Canada. Broken down by the individual being sponsored, the following dedicated web pages can provide more information relevant to each specific situation.

🌟Students entering Canada with basic skills/Canada visa updates 2024🌟

Canada’s Conestoga college’s faculty and sports staff union has made a very big statement. They have said that when international students come to Canada, many of them do not have computer skills. They do not have the skills of international students. If we take this statement seriously, then in the coming days we will have to face a lot of problems. If you are an international student in Canada or going to be, then what things do you have to take care of? So that you do not have a problem with studying, work permit, and PR. The faculty union of Conestoga College is a very strong union, so a big statement has been given on their behalf.  They said that all the students studying in the college at this time do not have basic skills like arithmetic skills. In this, they have added that when such students take admission where they come to study, then the faculty has a lot of difficulty, and the teachers have a lot of difficulty that they can teach them. This also raises a big question mark on the reputation of the college.

Here, we would like to tell you that more than 80% of students in Conestoga are outside of Canada, that is, International students. If we analyze this thing completely, some said something and others gave a statement on that, but these things have a big impact on international students. When we give them admission,  our eligibility criteria are the same as those of most public colleges. So, there is no question of low quality here.

We are going to share 3 lessons with you if you are going to be an international student, then you have to take care of these things.

First of all, your basic skills should be clear in the country you are applying to. Basic skills are computer skills. In Nepal, we study books, but in Canada or any Western country, most of the time you have to study computer skills. Laptop, iPod, these are the things you get to use. So somewhere you are not that familiar with technology, you have a problem. So you have to set your basic skills. You have to clear your arithmetic skills, which are our basic mathematics. Clear your language skills and your speaking skills. So first of all, you have to clear your basic skills.

After this try to choose a program that is relevant to your study. This will increase your chances of getting a visa, but the most important thing is that if you have studied biology before, then it will be easy for you to take a program related to it. Some students have studied something else, but when they apply, they apply to a program that they have not studied before, they face a lot of problems, their supply comes, they fail, and then it can be very dangerous for them.

After this, the most important point is that you have to adapt the education system there. This means that when you are in Nepal, the portion you study is mostly theoretical. You study theory, and you do cramming, but when you reach Canada or any other country, then their education system is completely different. They place more stress on skills and practicality. There you are given assignments. There are your seminars, your workshops, and your skill development. So somewhere, your way of studying is totally changed. So, you have to go there and adapt as soon as possible. We are not giving this information to scare you or to panic you. But these are facts. So, if you do not take care of these things, then you may have a problem with your study because when the supply comes, it is very expensive. You have to pay the fees for those credits in that subject again.

Secondly, when you are not able  to study properly, you will have a problem with the work in the future. And ultimately, your PR, which is your future in Canada, has a problem. So, if you are an international student going to Canada, take care of these things. So that no union has to say again tat these international students do not have basic skills.

Professional programs accreditation

In addition to institutional quality assurance processes of the institution, some academic programs in professional fields are subject to accreditation by professional bodies at the provincial, Canadian or international levels (for example, in the fields of nursing, architecture and engineering).

Professional bodies review programs to ensure that the content of university programs, teaching resources and research outputs are of consistently high quality to meet competency expectations and to support future professionals in their area of expertise.

Below are links to bodies that accredit professional programs at Canadian universities. Please note that this list is for information purposes only and is not exhaustive.

Some programs are also accredited on a voluntary basis (for example, business).

Note: There also exist organizations responsible for the licensing of individual practitioners following graduation from professional programs at Canadian universities. These organizations are not listed here. The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) offers additional information on professional program accreditation and professional licensing.
