  • This global event started in Sydney in 2007 and now encourages millions to turn off their lights to raise awareness of important environmental issues.
  • The Australian Government is looking to open up even more environment and sustainability jobs over the next few years too. In 2022, it invested a record A$25 billion to drive renewable energy projects, like the National Hydrogen Strategy for renewable energy, and these projects could open up thousands more jobs in the next few years.

  • Between 2021 and 2026 the number of jobs for ICT security specialists, and database and systems administrators is likely to increase more than for any other profession.

  • In fact, in Australia, out of the top ten jobs that are expected to grow the most in the near future, two are in IT and computing. Between 2021 and 2026, job projections show that there will be: 
  1. around 40% more (29,100) jobs for database administrators, systems administrators and ICT security specialists  
  2. 27% more (42,200) jobs for software and applications programmers – including analyst programmers, developer programmers, software engineers and software testers. 
  3. Other IT and computing jobs are also going to be in demand. There is expected to be:  
  1. around 22% more (7,900) jobs for computer network professionals – including computer network and systems engineers, network administrators and network analysts
  2. around 13% more (5,900) jobs for ICT business and systems analysts 
  3. around 18% more (14,400) jobs for ICT managers – like chief information officers and ICT project managers 
  4. around 44% more (4,800) jobs for ICT support and test engineers
  5. With so many more job opportunities opening up, the future looks bright for graduates in this field. 

Law and paralegal studies

  5. Personal care consultant roles (e.g. people who provide natural relaxation and health treatments) will grow by 8.5% (from 6,100 to 68,00). 

Sciences and mathematics

All of these are growth areas in Australia – which means more job opportunities for graduates in future. In fact, the demand for social professionals is rising, and is likely to grow by 18.9% (or 2,700 jobs) between 2021 and 2026.

Veterinary medicine
