We’ve written many articles mentioning that Australia is currently facing a shortage of qualified childcare professionals. The demand for quality childcare has surged as parents return to the workforce, creating a need for experienced educators who can meet the developmental and educational needs of young children.
The new skills assessment, effective from December 7, 2024, should make it easier for many foreigners to pass a skills assessment as an Early Childhood Teacher.

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) now handles the skills assessments effective from December 7, 2024. It has replaced the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). This shift is designed to make the process more aligned with the specific needs of early childhood education.

One of the significant changes is the reduction in strict English language requirements. Previously, you need to have completed 4 years of full time higher education study to qualify for the English exemption. The good news now is, the 4 years requirement has been reduced to 1 year.
If you have finished a higher education course in Australia which was at least 1 year in duration, you may be exempt from undertaking the IELTS test. This adjustment makes it easier for candidates to qualify, particularly those who have completed a one-year Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education.

The new pathway aims to provide a faster qualification assessment process which is beneficial for career changers and those looking to enter the early childhood education sector quickly. By reducing the time and complexity of the assessment, more qualified teachers can join the workforce sooner.
