Ontario Government Allocates College Seats

A big update is coming from Ontario. Ontario government has made it clear that which colleges and universities will get seats and how many seat will they get. This is the most important update as it is going to impact collegs and univeristies and students . This will tell us the number of applications each colllege and university could accept and also will help us to know the visa approvals for the same. So, let’s get the update:

Public vs. Private Seat Allocations

Before we began, the most important question here is that will private colleges and public colleges will ge the same allocation? The clear answer to this is NO! The Ontario government has clearly stated that 96% of the toal allication will be given to public institutions and the remaining will be allocated to the private colleges.

Private Institutions with Quotas

Out of the quota alloted to the private institutions, Yorkville got the majority of the Quota. The reason for this is because at Yorkville, they have their own course for bachelors and there is no one for masters at Yorkville. So, Yorkville’s Toronto campus has been allotted 5154 seats and the International Business University with 127 seats.

Other private colleges like the University of Niagara Falls, Brampton Flight Center, and Durham Flight Center also receive the quota, but Yorkville University leads with the highest number of allocated seats.

Public Colleges

Moving to public colleges outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), major seat allocations have been made to institutions like Conestoga College (19,885 seats), Fanshawe College (16,752 seats), and St. Clair College (10,753 seats). Algoma University has been granted a quota of 3,038 seats, accommodating both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. However, due to limited seat availability, certain program admissions, such as project management, are restricted. Hopefully, Algoma University plans to introduce new master’s programs, offering additional opportunities for students.

To conclude, it is noted that private colleges with post-study work permits have received seats and Colleges without post-study work permits or PPP College campuses in Toronto have not received any quotas. It is to be noted that the PALs are issued according to the Intake. The May intake followed by September intake, and then the January intake will be issued accordingly.
